What to watch this weekend?

Welcome back to another #ODPH Wrestling Recap blog. Before we dive into everything, check out our friends at 3FNW with their latest episode! (https://pods8122.podbean.com) It’s been a wilder week of shows heading into 3 big high profile shows. Let’s recap it, shall we?

*Raw was a solid show but failed to really move the needle like the first “Heyman Era” show. Decent opener with “Secky” (ugh) vs. Andrade & Vega but weird elimination stipulation thrown in. Look, I’m happy that Becky and Seth are a thing IRL, but this is NOT working as far as a scripted storyline. Becky seems to be out of “the Man” character during this & it’s just not selling me on a character’s story. Same with Seth. For story purpose only, it’s just not selling me on watching them in a mixed tag or storyline heading into a PPV.

*Rest of Raaw felt cliche except the ending which saw Cedric Alexander “team” with Roman Reigns vs. Drew/Shane. If someone like Cedric has the chance to shine, they can go and make people take notice. Hopefully this means a push to something better than chasing R-Truth around for the 24/7 title.

*Speaking of which…STILL the best story on both shows. Maverick and Truth are pure RATINGS!

*Smackdown was the far better show. Kevin Owens has now turned face with Pipebomb 2.0. No idea who to credit for this, but BOUT DAMN TIME! Owens said a great deal of what the wrestling community has been thinking. Where does this goes from here? Best guess is a MONSTER push. Wonder what Sami thinks about this? We also found out who knocked on Alister Black’s door: Cesaro! Expect this to steal the show on Sunday!

*Enzo & Joey Janela had a “fight” at a Blink 182 concert that spilled over to Twitter. It’s good for a read.

*This weekend, there’s AEW “Fight For the Fallen”, Evole (On the WWE Network) 131, and WWE extreme rules. TBH, there’s really not a lot I care for concerning Extreme rules except Black/cesaro so no predictions on that card. Evolve is worth a watch either live or on replay. Support indy wrestling and send the message to the WWE to air more indy feds on the network (*cough* IMPACT *cough*).

*Xcite wrestling’s very own Joe Gacy is on Evolve’s show. That’s reason enough to watch the show.

*By default, lets break down AEW “Fight For the Fallen”:

Buy - In Preshow: Sonny Kiss vs. Librarian Peter Avalon

I really hope Kiss gets the W, but see Avalon getting the win via help from Leva Bates

Buy - In Preshow: Shawn Spears, MJF & Sammy Guevara vs. Joey Janela, Jimmy Havoc & Darby Allin

The fact MJF is on the pre-show tells me that won’t be the only appearance of him for the night. The fact he’s teaming with Spears after the “chair Cody” moment is confusing and sense that AEW will botch the landing of revealing he had Spears to the job. Either way, expecting team MJF to get the win.

*Shoko Nakajima & Bea Priestley vs. Britt Baker & Riho

Baker’s the future of AEW Women’s division. Fully expect her team to win here.

*Angelico & Jack Evans vs. Dark Order vs. Jungle Boy & Luchasaurus

Fun 3 way dance, but Dark order (FKA Super Smash Bros.) don’t get fancy vignettes to job on the first night. Expect them to win via some weird outside interference

*Brandi Rhodes vs. Allie

Allie should but expecting Awesome Kong or someone else to help Brandi get the win here

*Kip Sabian v. Hangman Page

No way Page loses with a title shot looming, unless MJF does something here. Page FTW

*The Lucha Brothers vs. S.C.U.!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Lucha’s haven’t won a match in AEW yet. That’s gotta change sometime right? Expect it here.

*Kenny Omega vs. CIMA

Should be match of the night. Nobody beats Kenny. Nobody.

*Rhodes Family vs. Young Bucks

Solid storyline here & will be a good match. Not sure how, but the Bucks will get the W here. Maybe with help from Shawn Spears? Gotta build to Cody vs. Spears before All Out right?

That’s all for this week. Keep the talk going on @ODparlayhour . Thanks for reading!
